ETHAN ALLEN RACE HORSE WEATHERVANE #1
An as found 19th century late copper hollow body running horse weathervane in the form of race horse Ethan Allen. This vane has a molded cast iron head. The running horse is mounted on a stand for the photographs but the stand is not included, in this instance, with the vane. We can have a stand fabricated for it at your request.. This horse has a history! It was removed 30 - 40 years ago from a house in Northern Ohio. The house was being demolished at that time to make way for a church. The poor horse was a target at a point in its life as evidenced by the entry and exit wounds to the neck and leg. That and some slight seam separations are the only damage. It has developed a wonderfully oxidized verdigris patina with some of the yellow sizing still evident along the belly on one side. The horse measures 30" long and 18" high
